![]() ![]() Two separate alarms are great for weekday and weekend customization. You can adjust the brightness with 20 light intervals. The light is a soothing warm, almost orange, hue. The Spruce / Stephanie Vermillion Frequently Asked Questions What color is the light? It would be nice if those sounds could shut off with a sleep mode. Those sounds can be programmed only with wake up time or left on continuously. The thing I’m most bummed about is that nature sounds equipped on the device can't be used as white noise for going to sleep. Its bulb is rated for at least 16,000 hours of use, and Philips offers a 2-year warranty on its light therapy products. Philips says consumers can’t replace the bulb when it runs out, which means I’ll need to invest in another light or upgrade to their next gadget when the time comes. Although, in theory, that time should not come for a long time. Another downside is the light bulb itself. But after about five minutes of fumbling, I give up and wake up. I’m supposed to be able to roll over, subtly tap, and it should snooze the alarm. For starters-and, honestly, this may be a good thing in my case-I can never get the “tap to snooze” function to work. I can also plug in my phone and play music via AUX cable. However, I much prefer bird calls or waves to news or talk radio. ![]() I rarely listen to the radio, but it includes a handy FM radio button I could use for waking up. The warm glow that radiates from it doubles as a nice reading light and is soothing during all hours of the day. Sure, it’s basically just a white contraption, but it fits nicely in our room. This device has a few additional perks beyond its sunrise and sunset simulation. But it only works on occasion for me, usually the days that I'm already exhausted. The subtly dimming light, which starts at full 300 lux brightness and slowly fades through 20 light intervals, is soothing. ![]() The sunset routine is nice but not as functional for me. It almost feels like I’m camping with my family. Plus, the soothing bird calls are a nice treat when I make it past 30 minutes. Each light-induced wake-up feels so natural that I forget why I’m awake at 7 a.m. The light almost always wakes me up before the 30-minute mark. Yes, support did answer both emails I sent asking questions in about 24 hours however, as I sit down for a fifth attempt to use Planner Pro, I’m faced with several more questions. Expecting a buyer to patiently wait days - probably would take weeks - to understand how this app works, is unrealistic. I am far from a novice and have learned dozens of apps over the years on my own. I see this as a scam, and the reasons I do so are numerous, but the first and foremost is that it its features are not integrated and confuses the word project with tasks. With both a Microsoft to do desktop app and mobile app available, it is easy to stay on task all day long. There is no useful way to lay out tasks, or steps, of a project no way to connect notes to tasks. Download app Open web app A smart daily planner Set yourself up for success with My Day, intelligent and personalized suggestions to update your daily or weekly to do list. One more reason: if you click above “If you need support, please visit Planner Pro…” located above the Review dialogue box, you’ll be directed to “Tiny Calendar.” Tiny calendar is exactly what this app is no more, and when free calendars are everywhere, why buy this!? Further, I don’t see how an edit is even possible after an entry is made. This app - in design - is exactly what I need. It allows me to prioritize tasks with A-B-C 1-2-3 (a la Franklin Covey), create “projects” with multiple tasks and varying deadlines, has a notes section, varying calendar views so I can see daily/weekly/monthly, etc. I paid for and downloaded the desktop app, iPad app, and iPhone app as I wanted my info with me wherever I go. My issue has been that items don’t seem to sync, and the desktop app is the only one that has a “refresh” button that I can find. So my IPhone keeps alerting me to tasks that I marked as completed weeks ago on my desktop, and neither my desktop nor my phone are showing calendar events and tasks that I added to my iPad. ![]() ![]() ![]() The motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, immediately stopped.Ĭorona Fire Department paramedics reached the location within 15 minutes and pronounced Hunter dead at the scene. “She was unable to avoid the pedestrian, and he was struck in the number one lane,” Navarro said. The fun mechanics and joy of mastering drifts, shortcuts, and jumps get me going in Hot Wheels Unleashed multiplayer, but the fairness of every round is really what has kept me hooked. Missing the starting boost never feels good, but it doesn’t spell defeat either, as you can always catch up with sharper skills and a bit of luck. And sometimes poor luck with odd collision physics or bad jump timing will play in, or against, your favor. Avoiding obstacles, including other cars that slow you down, takes skill, not luck. Even if their car is technically not the ultimate stats-wise, better racers have a better chance of winning. Unlocking more cars is never all that strenuous either, eliminating any pay-to-win concerns.īut really, the great equalizer is simply skill. Maybe not literally true, as some cars are simply better than others, but I’ve raced dozens of online races with just a fully upgraded starting car that took me maybe an hour to fully upgrade and have plenty of wins and podiums under my belt. But in the end, it feels like with an at least good-enough car, any race is winnable. Many of these cars are even upgradable to make them faster, drift better, or hold onto more surplus boosts. There are dozens upon dozens of cars you can collect, each with its own speed, braking, acceleration, and other stats. While it’s not always easy managing your speed and gravity on custom tracks, or even when you’re on pre-built ones, the game always feels fair. Mastering the quirks of the game’s gravity is something that may seem like it’s not meant to be a feature but turns out to be one of the most fun parts of the whole game. I once pulled off a last-second photo-finish victory on a custom track by using a short jump to skip just a sliver of the track around a downhill turn to bump ahead of the player who was besting me the whole previous two laps. ![]() But when it does, which it often does, it makes for some of the best races. So tracks may possess impossible jumps, ridiculous turns, or wacky gravity. As long as the creator could complete it once, it’s valid. Sometimes, these are total duds-they’re test tracks 10 seconds long with absolutely no competitiveness to them.īut sometimes, they’re absolute venues of chaos. Unfortunately, there are no real rules governing what can and can’t qualify for turning up online. While most of the game’s pre-built tracks are plenty of fun and don’t honestly feel repetitive even when played repeatedly, the custom tracks are where some of the most fun happens. Each race has the contenders vote between five tracks, an easy, medium, and hard pre-made track, and two custom tracks uploaded to the servers by random players from the track builder. Hot Wheels Unleashed multiplayer is extra special because there are limitless possible tracks to race on. ![]() As a result, every race feels exhilarating every time. Plus, the tracks do have several gimmicks, including giant monsters that spit webs or breathe fire, giant fans that try to push you off the edge of bumperless tracks, and magnetism that lets you drive upsidedown without falling off. Mastering the drifting in this game feels better than any racing game I’ve played, thanks to the subtle controller rumble, the boost meter it fills, and just how tight those turns can be. Without the trappings of more complicated driving simulators, like gear shifting or anti-lock braking systems, or even distinct weather patterns to contend with, you’re left with just the basics. It’s just a drive, drift, and boost around bends, over gaps, and through loops kind of game. Hot Wheels Unleashed doesn’t have fancy modes, items to throw at enemies, or complicated driving mechanics. Read on to find out what makes this game so hot. The Hot Wheels Unleashed multiplayer, in particular, has become a surprise contender for my favorite multiplayer game of 2021. It’s not only nostalgic with its tracks inspired by the classic toys and their giant monsters. But Hot Wheels Unleashed seems to be something totally different and special. I have always loved racing games, from Need for Speed to Forza to Simpsons: Hit and Run to Mario Kart. ![]() ![]() ![]() Four of them do have new short routes we can use in custom GPs and time trials, but their effect on the overall package isn’t really seismic. ![]() There have been no new circuits added to the 2017 calendar so we have to make do with the same tracks we had in F1 2016. I think it’s a clever and credible way of getting these old cars out on modern circuits, but the limited, greatest hits-style approach results in copies of the same car out on track whenever they’re all out racing. They’re a bit like the Showcase Events in Forza Motorsport 6. This Ferrari still holds a host of current lap records, 13 years later.į1 2017’s classic cars are weaved through the career mode in a series of invitational events, which vary between overtaking challenges, checkpoint challenges, and handicap and multiclass races. They also sound fantastic, but I don’t know whether or not that’s just because contemporary F1 cars sound like an angry blowfly trying to escape from an upturned bucket in comparison. They do feel very distinct from the modern cars, and each other, and it’s fun to compare and contrast them. The sense of weight is terrific.Īlso featured is a smattering of retro rides from yesteryear, with 11 (or 12, with the special edition) extra F1 icons from five teams included (from Senna’s championship-winning 1991 McLaren to Schumacher’s beastly 2004 Ferrari). The 2017 cars feel like they’re clinging to the road a fraction more tenaciously than their 2016 counterparts. On a steering wheel it’s probably the best force feedback I’ve ever felt in a Codemasters game and the sense of weight is terrific, but even on a pad the extra bite is noticeable. Codemasters has responded, bringing all of that extra girth, grip, and speed to the new cars in F1 2017. Basically, the cars are heavier but faster. This year’s Formula One season saw a massive shake-up in car regulations, which has resulted in bigger cars with wider tyres and improved aero. It’s not the dramatic improvement that last year’s instalment was over the disappointing F1 2015 – overall there’s more iteration than innovation this year – but it definitely usurps F1 2016 as Codemasters’ greatest F1 game to date. It challenges us with volatile racing but rewards consistency, patience, and strategy. F1 2017 is a confident and comprehensive racer that succeeds by embracing all of modern F1’s idiosyncratic rules and regulations, as well as its danger, and baking it all into a truly great sports sim. This kind of split-second unpredictability is a staple of real F1 and Codemasters continues to capture it. It’s still very early days but the championship has pivoted in an instant. I manage to extract my driver from the mess, grazing the wall and losing part of the front wing in the process, but Hamilton and Vettel’s cars are toast a snarl of carbon fibre shards and loose wheels. He’s turned into Hamilton at race pace and managed to tangle himself, Lewis, and my F1 wunderkind Jackie Speedweasel together for a date with the wall. During the Russian Grand Prix, in the first year of my F1 2017 career, he’s done something similar. In this year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel had a real brain snap on track, pulling up alongside rival Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes and steering into him during a safety car restart. ![]() ![]() Here too, it’s only a first iteration that will probably evolve - there’s no getting rid of ghosting, for example. And, as with the Panorama functionality, you can further edit the RAW DNG image afterwards. The Capture One HDR image was sharper, more accurately layered and with natural colours even using its Auto settings. It’s the “few clicks” that worried me, but after comparing the 5-second HDR output of Capture One 22 Pro with that of the two most powerful dedicated apps, I must say the developers did a fine job. Capture One 22 Pro HDR Merging gives you a single high dynamic range DNG in just a few clicks. It’s true HDR, meaning the kind of HDR that you create by combining several images shot with slightly different exposures. The second new feature has been on my wish list for a long time. There’s also the ability to select a stitch size in a range of 25% to 100%. The resulting panorama is a DNG file that allows further working on the RAW file. Capture One 22 Pro has multi-row stitching, which means you can build an extremely high-resolution image in all directions. It allows for four projection types of the approximately ten that exist.Ĭapture One’s “Perspective” equals a rectilinear projection, while its Panini projection is the only type that makes sense if you photographed a whole sphere. The panoramic feature set of Capture One 22 Pro is a first iteration that you can bet your life on will be expanded in upcoming updates and upgrades. ![]() ![]() A fully featured pano app will include features that enable masking out unwanted elements, manually editing control points, straightening horizons, and working with very large and multi-row panoramas. Panorama software isn’t just stitching images together. In this case, it’s the ability to create panoramic photos and true multi-photo HDR, in addition to wireless tethering for Canon cameras and AI-driven batch-capable rotation. There’s no further improving on features already available, so the developers start adding new ones. Capture One 22 Pro is the most obvious example of a RAW editor that’s reached the pinnacle of its capabilities. ![]() |
